Obstacle Free National Park

Nationalpark barrierefrei:Wheelchair excursion in the Klausbach Valley

Imagine that you are blind but would still like to find out some quick information about the Berchtesgaden National Park on the Internet. Not that easy? With our new Internet presence it has become a little easier: obstacle free access played an important role when we redesigned our Internet pages. According to the new German regulations (BITV), all websites financed by the public sector must be configured in an obstacle free format. That means that handicapped people should also be able to easily find their way around on the web.

More information about our Web Accessibility you find in the Imprint

“Obstacle free” does not just apply to Internet use: obstacles such a rises in doorway thresholds, stairs, hard to read texts in exhibitions etc., can make access to facilities or participation in on-site presentations difficult for handicapped people.

Berchtesgaden National Park already makes it possible for handicapped people to participate in handicapped friendly tours, with several of the hiking trails made appropriate for wheelchair access. The opportunities will continue to be expanded upon in the future as well. There are also plans for creating a “Model Obstacle Free Management Plan” where the existing facilities would be analyzed and suggestions made for future redesigning.

The "Bayerisches Netzwerk Barrierefreies Naturerleben" (Bavarian Network for Experiencing Nature Obstacle Free) was founded following the model management plan.
