Haus der Berge
Berchtesgaden National Park will have a new center for information and environmental education In 2003 the Bavarian ministerial cabinet moved in favor of building a new, modern environmental education and information center for Berchtesgaden National Park. This new ‘Nationalpark-Haus’ is to serve as a tourist attraction in the region, as well as an infrastructure that focuses on the future. It should also act as a ‘green classroom’ for Berchtesgaden National Park, in which cognitive and emotional learning can become a unique experience.
Following extensive research, the plot of ground where the former ‘Berchtesgadener Hof’ hotel stood was chosen as the location for the future ‘Haus der Berge’. Of all the possible properties inspected, this plot, located in the ‘market’ township of Berchtesgaden, clearly met all the requirements for the project. The demolition of the former buildings began in the summer of 2006 and is now complete.
At present work is progressing at full speed in close cooperation between the State Building Authority in Traunstein and the National Park administration on the building’s concept, as well as on the level of exhibition and environmental education areas, not to forget the grounds. Whenever possible, the ideas of local associations and federations will be taken into account and integrated into the overall catalog of ideas.
